In mid-2014 Luke and Kimbalie welcomed their first child, Poppy into the world. Poppy underwent a number of open-heart surgeries in an attempt to correct some issues related to CHD.
Sadly, in October 2015 Poppy became a Heart Angel, after fighting so hard through many surgeries and weeks in hospital.
On a sad afternoon remembering Poppy, Luke, through Ben Heggerty his mutual friend, asked if Chain Reaction could make a donation to show gratitude for all the support Luke, Kimbalie and Poppy had received during her brief time. HeartKids was their first choice and Chain Reaction gladly made a donation to HeartKids in memory of Poppy.
During the COVID lockdowns of 2020, an idea was born to create an online activity challenge that would allow participants to challenge themselves to cover as many kilometres by walking, running, cycling or swimming.
People’s motivation to challenge themselves physically can be linked to many things, but being able to use your body in a way that others will never have the opportunity to, is one of the strongest.
That chain reaction of events has led to the Heartbeats 4 Heart Kids Challenge, powered by Chain Reaction – an online fundraising challenge created to benefit Heart Kids and Heart Angels all over Australia. This story highlights one of the many chain reactions that we are so honoured to be part of and the amazing network of people across Australia that are linked together.
